Cloetta Tarragona Almond-croquante

Tarragona Almond-croquante is a lower quality milk chocolate. The chocolate contains other fats than cocoa butter. The flavour was better than similar lower quality milk chocolates.

Ingredients: Sugar, cacao butter, whole milk powder, almonds, cacao mass, vegetable fat, invert sugar, butter, glucose syrup, emulsifier (soy lecitin), salt, acidity regulator (sodium bicarbonate), aromas (for example vanillin).

Tarragona Mandelkrokant from Cloetta







Tarragona mandel-krokant is a new (from 2011) flavour of the Tarragona chocolate bar. Cloetta has produced Tarragona since 1928 and it is one of Cloetta´s oldest brands. The name Tarragona originates from a town about 100 km from Barcelona. The area around Tarragona has for centuries been famous for its hazelnuts farms.

The chocolate is a milk chocolate (min 25% cacao) with almond pieces (10%) and croquante (10%). The chocolate contains other vegetable fats than cacao butter.


The appearance

Surface: Glossy, butterish and soft

Colour: Very light brown

Snap:  Almost no so sound, daft, without any ring to it

Design: The bar is very thin.

Score: 6/10



Opinion: The aroma of the chocolate is neither intense nor absent.

Scents: There is a sweet scent of caramel, but it was also possible to notice a scent of vanilla and milk.

Score: 5/10



Opinion: The chocolate melts easily. It is totally smooth and buttery but it is a little bit too sticky and gooey. The tiny pieces of almond and croquante gets stuck between your teeth.

Score: 5/10


The taste

Opinion: The flavour of the chocolate appears immediately when you put the chocolate in your mouth. The chocolate does not taste a lot by itself. The taste of the croquante is dominant. The chocolate is too sweet and acid and after taste is missing.

Flavours: A sweet flavour of caramel, vanilla, butter and milk.

After taste: The taste disappears rather fast.

Tarragona Mandel-krokant is no high quality chocolate and cannot be compared with quality chocolate. But the chocolate competes well with other low quality chocolates. I tested the 10g chocolate bar.
